Last week I took on the 3 Day Refresh for the second time, only this go round I wasn’t breastfeeding so it was a little different but still provided the same great results! To read about my first experience click HERE otherwise keep on scrolling to hear about my latest Refresh experience.
I decided to do another round because after our move and the holidays I’ve been struggling with some bad eating habits, too many sweets and emotional eating to be exact. When this happens I just feel gross due to low energy levels, mood swings, bloating, cravings, etc. so I knew it was time to break the bad habits and given the results I had last time I knew this would be just the program to help me do that! So what exactly is the 3 Day Refresh?
The refresh is a low calorie, all natural cleanse that uses supplements along with fresh fruits, veggies, healthy fats and a lot of water to help you make a clean break from bad habits. Numerous benefits like weight loss, increased energy, decreased cravings, improved mood, etc. have been associated with detoxing your body and using programs like the Refresh to do it. So what exactly does the plan look like? It’s four supplement drinks a day: 1 Shakeology, 1 Fiber Sweep and 2 Vanilla Fresh protein drinks. Plus, 2 servings of fruit, 2 servings of vegetables, 2 servings of healthy fats and a dinner option {recipes are provided and feature veggies along with more fats.} Drinking unsweetened tea up to three times a day is also allowed which only helps the detox process.
Last time I added extra calories due to breastfeeding so I was a little nervous how I would feel on truly just 900 calories a day but surprisingly I felt great! It could be the fact I’ve already been cutting back on coffee {I swear I’m not crazy} and the lack of caffeine didn’t effect me as much. Also, I really laid low these days with my boys and didn’t do any workouts to help conserve energy. This is exactly what my 3 days looked like…
Day 1
Breakfast: Cafe Latte Shakeology with half a banana
Late Morning: Fiber sweep supplement, just mix with 8 ounces of water and chug! I’ll be honest this stuff is not my favorite but I found a better way to make it 🙂 Instead of mixing with just water I started blending it with a little lemon juice too, it helps break up the thickness and gives it a little more of a citrus taste. All and all for a fiber drink it’s pretty good in the sense it doesn’t taste terrible or send you running to the bathroom!
Lunch: Vanilla Fresh protein drink, 2/3 cup blackberries, 4 celery stalks and 1 ½ teaspoons of cashew butter
Afternoon: Green tea and 3 medium sized carrots
Dinner: Vanilla Fresh protein drink blended with ice and a splash of pumpkin pie extra, SO good! Plus, my favorite Coconut Steamed Veggies. I feel in love with this recipe the last time I did the Refresh and couldn’t wait to eat them again. Day 2
Breakfast: Cafe Latte Shakeology with 2/3 cup blueberries
Mid Morning: Fiber Sweep
Lunch: Vanilla fresh, 2/3 cup mixture of blueberries and blackberries, 4 celery stalks and 1 1/2 teaspoons cashew butter.
Later Afternoon: 3 medium carrots
Dinner: Vanilla Fresh with pumpkin pie spice again and a new veggie stir fry recipe that gave coconut steamed veggies a run for their money! Super simple with green beans, carrots and bell peppers – recipe coming soon so stay tuned. Day 3
Breakfast: Cafe Latte Shakeology with half a banana
Mid Morning: Iced pomegranate tea from Caribou! I had a coffee date with a friend and STILL stayed on track.
Late Morning: Fiber Sweep
Lunch: Vanilla fresh, 2/3 cup mixture of blueberries and blackberries, 4 celery stalks and 1 1/2 teaspoons cashew butter. Yes, I ate the same thing for lunch all 3 days because it was easy and quick when I was at work or home with the boys!
Later Afternoon: 3 medium carrots
Dinner: Vanilla fresh blended with a dash of cinnamon and veggie stir fry. I also drank at least 75 ounces of water a day + all the water included in my supplements, yes I was peeing up a storm! So that’s it! Sounds easy right? Well kind of! I cannot lie to you guys while the plan is simple and a very gentle, refreshing cleanse compared to most on the market it’s still tough to cut calories and get most of them from supplements. I was so ready to eat my fruits and veggies whenever I got the chance because well I love food! Now onto my results…
I did not do this to lose weight but to feel better and focus on breaking the bad eating habits I was struggling with. Which I can say that after just 3 days I wasn’t craving junk or sugar but meat, eggs, oatmeal, fruit and all my other clean, whole foods. Physically, I felt less bloated. Mentally and emotionally I felt proud that I stuck to the plan even when there were times I would have rather quit. These are the exact same non-scale victories I got last time but this go round I also have a whole new appreciation for my 80/20 clean eating lifestyle. I honestly cannot imagine a diet or lifestyle where you only drink supplements or barely eat, it’s just plain crazy! Trust me when I say there are WAY better options for whatever your health goals are and I would love to share them with you because quick fixes and fads will only take you so far. Yes, I did a quick 3 day program but it was simply to get me back on track with my healthy lifestyle not to live like this forever! And just in case you’re curious I lost 3.6 pounds and 2 inches of my waist.
Now to answer a couple common questions!
Did you workout? Mild to moderate exercise is recommended during the refresh. You need to keep it light so your body has enough energy to flush your system and function during everyday life. Personally, I chose to skip workouts all together. My husband was out of town for work so I didn’t have much mom time and I just enjoyed the extra cuddles and giggles with my boys!
Did you have gas or have to run to the bathroom? Most of the time when people hear the word “cleanse” they think enema or constant bathroom trips, for me this was not the case on the refresh. I didn’t experience any gas or bloating but I did find I became more regular! My body is already used to eating a lot of high fiber foods because of my daily Shakeology, fruits and veggies so it wasn’t shocked by the new ingredients. Now if someone who never eats fiber does the refresh they may have some of those uncomfortable side effects but I didn’t.
What do you do AFTER the cleanse is over? Keep drinking Shakeology for sure! The Refresh challenge pack comes with a 30 day supply so that you can keep fueling your body with good for you superfoods. Not to mention it helps fight off cravings, increases energy and is a sweet treat too! I’m back working out to the Core de Force Deluxe plan and 80/20 eating which is 80% clean eats and 20% treats. I’m focusing in again on more healthy treats and have been baking more with almond flour which is kind of fun! I’m also using my Portion Fix containers more because they just make clean eating so simple.
